Evaluation of a website / blog

Hi students,

I came across an interesting blog while searching for today's post.

https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/magazine

i know with all the trauma of searching for MIT campus in the wilds of chromepet, talking about your online assignment must be even more painful! But duty calls!

As i mentioned earlier, this blog i saw was quite interesting to browse. The layout is simpler not very cumbersome and opens up immediately. It is an online magazine for teachers by British council. The BBC gives it a brand value. But as we browse the blog we can see useful sections like teaching kids, adults and even teachers. so all teachers can make use of this blog. If top section has links for different areas, the lower section elaborates and includes external links. The left section gives links to additional resources, ideas, classroom activities and articles. It is a treasure for practising teachers. i found some worthy ideas and interesting articles. But it does have problems too. Though the home page opened easily i had some difficulty while browsing inner links. Some ideas i found it too simplistic. Needs better organization as book reviews were put along with ideas page.

As i had mentioned earlier, each one has to browse a website / blog and write a short paragraph about it. it should include its strengths and problems too. the evaluation sheet i gave should also be filled in. Kindly add the url link of the website / blog you had reviewed.

  1. The MOOC websites are more popular currently. So I choose a MOOC website called Alison courses for evaluation. This website is loaded with many courses open free for all , that's great. Alison website is so simple and easy to use . Like , the main page has options like home, about, courses, contact us, sign up and login with some options in the footer like feedback, address and about the website . Then, the home page shows all the courses in separate parts like diploma courses , languages, health literacy and many. If you click any one option like languages, then, there is many courses in that area found listed , that's awesome . If you want to join in any of the courses you need to signup for free. If you need a certificate for doing a course then you need to pay some amount .There is no restrictions to view this page and browse through its content till now, its free . There is no advertisement distracting in Alison. Alison should improve their style of the home page (i. e) its too simple. Then, the site can include one option about the details of the teachers who design the courses. The courses are much concerned about arts and humanities science which is both positive and negative for this website The link for the website is given ,try it... alison.com/course/.

  2. The website which I referred to is www.edition.cnn.com
This is the official website of CNN news channel. This website primarily deals with news-news of all types. One can find all varieties of news given under separate links at the very opening page itself like for example entertainment, world, technology, sport, style, travel. The various news given under specif links helps the user to have a quick view of news which he wants. A single click of the link provides us with useful news and interesting articles. We can also follow them in fb or twitter by going to their links which demand a single click of the same.Several videos are also available for the various news.
The problem with this website which I found was that several adds are shown in the front page itself like that of flight and hotel search, some courses, career prospects and other stuff. Also it takes lot of time to open certain links like "The CNN FREEDOM PROJECT". I could also find some pop-up windows opening which shows the terms and conditions of the website.

    2. No specif reason as such....the news channel is of great use to everyone in terms of information and so I thought it will b good if we choose a familiar one.

    1. For information purpose we usually visit university websites and among that I feel EFLU website is better than the rest. When I thought about suggesting a good website this came as first in the list. It looks professional and function in efficient and effective manner. It has the attractiveness to create an impression to the user.
Firstly, the URL is very simple, short and it is intuitive. The website is reader friendly, it is clear and easy to understand. It does not looks conjusted with too much of information where as the homepage is simple with apt number of links and information platforms. It has classy look and the reader will not get distracted by too much of graphics and images. The user will get general and academic mic information's and notices even without scrolling the page down. The access of information will be unambiguous and easy comparing to the other websites. The contact details are easily accessible even without opening any special link. The quick links given in the bottom of the page helps the user to access information's more easily and directly.
The website is up to date where we can find up coming events and university related news in the front itself. The top right end gives a link to google map to find the place and it uses decent graphics and animation.some of the website usually have clashing colour whereas this websites designed with a dark red, white and gray combination. A search option in the page helps the user to make things easier.
The only problem I found was that the website's homepage is not on one screen and the user has scroll up and for the information's and most of the links are in the bottom of the page.Except this I felt EFLU website one among the best I have seen.

  6. The website which I found interesting is http://esl.about.com/od/englishlistening/a/listen_tips.htm and I recommend this site for all type of learners of English (beginners, intermediate and advanced learners). As you click the site, the front page has six subcategories in English listening skills and activities. It is an effective listening practice for teachers and learners of English. The links include comprehension , quizzes and practice exercise which makes the learners to get more interested . The sub-links are very easy to access and we can sign up to get English lessons online daily. The layout is catchy and interesting that it has videos, real audios with listening strategies. The learners and teachers can improve their pronunciation, stress and intonation as they are the key to understand and to be understood when speaking English.

Though the links and informations are plenty, it takes little time to get opened the videos. But on the whole the main page and the linking pages are filled with Education! Education!! Education!!!

  7. www.homeshop18.com
I have evaluated the official website for Home Shop 18. This website is familiar to most of us. The website offers online purchasing of kitchen appliances as well as clothing, accessories, footwear and digital products. The homepage offers a quick view on discounts of various products. The page is designed vibrantly in order to catch buyers’ attention. This website has a TV channel by the same name. The homepage also shows the exclusive items from Home Shop 18 TV. This website is well known for its great discounts. One may find it disrupting as the homepage has never ending chain of advertisements on various products. I personally take pleasure into see the choice of words the homepage uses such as, ‘think affordably before shopping’, ‘hot jewellery’, ‘weekend wit’, ‘best of the best deals’. Above all the homepage also offers a chance to apply online for anchoring in Home Shop 18 TV channel. The website has a customer support page where one can mails any queries and order related issues. They have a help desk which serves 24 hours a day. Customer support team also responds to SMS. Customer cares helpline numbers are given in official site. What I like most about this website is that it offers partnership. Anybody who is passionate for online business practices they can join in Home Shop 18. Home Shop 18 also available in all social media sites. One can become a fan of this website in facebook or can follow regularly in twitter and LinkedIn. The website frequently uploads their videos in YouTube. We can also add this website in goggle plus circle. The website has an official blog as well. The website has given the corporate location of Home Shop 18 with a map.
Online shopping has larger current status today. It has become successful to reach wide-ranging people. Home Shop 18 is a reliable site for online shoppers. It gives priority to customers’ comfort ability both online and offline.

  8. Hello comrades! I was just surfing the net for online libraries... I stopped myself with Wiley's online library. You would have known this Wiley through FOR DUMMIES. The website http://online.wiley.com/browse/subjects// opens to reliable sources of nonfiction books in multidisciplinary collections. The link opens to the books of life to physical and social sciences including humanities. People out there try this. It is easy to access and damn reliable. When it comes to evaluating the web the download time is under 5kb in size and not too cluttered with texts and images. The home page all by itself gives much details. It's KAP is cool!!! You get a trial period for a month to login to download it's books. You need not provide your personal mail for it. It provides you!!!! The links are direct and there's no feel of getting lost. Not just nonfiction books it also has 1500 journals. It gives supplementary information guys. To gain your trust I am giving you it's credential validity: It has publishing alliances with partners including Microsoft, National Geographic Society and IEEE. GO FOR IT!!! REMEMBER ONLY NONFICTION AND JOURNALS AND ARTICLES BUT OF ANY DISCIPLINE. And sorry for those who is gonna work it out with iPads. Wiley online library closed a de lo to make it's titles available for the iPad!

It is Nik’s Learning Technology blog where one can find any number of articles, workshop(s) about the use of technology in learning can be found.

The layout of this page is more informative. Easy to access any link as per the choice of the reader. Most interesting thing is that, the blog has all the videos and articles from the year 2007 till today. Every day one article is put up in the home page which is very interesting and also the cite is up - to – date till now.

No pop - up windows or ads interfere the page as a disturbing factor to the reader. Complete information about the author is given but the contact number is missing. But in this technical world having the mail id as and the social networking id is the most important factor to reach any person individually. So I didn’t feel it a lack of information in this website.

The blog has 1,742 followers and 5,516,996 views as today’s ( 17 – 10 – 2015) statistics. Any students or reader who wants to know about use of technology in the classroom it is the best and the authentic blog to refer. The arrangements and the information in the blog are well planned and browsing is also easy with any browser and single click will do wonders.

Adding to that the blog has free downloads, edtech news and a place for getting newsletter’s through mail only for this subscription and signing up is asked. Otherwise it is totally free to use the website and can read and watch any number of videos and articles posted there.

  23. Hello comrades! I was just surfing the net for online libraries… I stopped myself with Wiley’s online library. You would have known this Wiley through FOR DUMMIES. The website http://online.wiley.com/browse/subjects// open to reliable sources of nonfiction books in multidisciplinary collections. The link opens to, from the book of life to physical and social sciences including humanities. People out there try this. It is easy to access and damn reliable. When it comes to evaluating the web the download time is under 5kb in size and not too cluttered with images. The homepage all by itself gives much detail. The KAP is cool!! You get a trial period for a month to login and download the books needed. You need not provide your personal mail id for the trial period. It provides you!!! The links are direct and there is no feel of getting lost. Non just nonfiction books it also has 1500 journals. It gives supplementary informations guys. To gain your trust I give you it’s credential validity: it has publishing alliances with partners including Microsoft, National Geographic Society and IEEE. Go for it! REMEMBER ONLY NONFICTIONS, JOURNALS AND ARTICLES BUT OF ANY DISCIPLINE. And sorry for those who is gonna work it out with ipads. Wiley online library closed a deal to make it’s titles available for the ipad!

  26. The MOOC websites are more popular currently. So I choose a MOOC website called Alison courses for evaluation. This website is loaded with many courses open free for all , that's great. Alison website is so simple and easy to use . Like , the main page of the website has options like home, about, courses, contact us, sign up and login with some options in the footer like feedback, address and about the website . Then the home page shows all the courses in separate parts like diploma courses , languages, health literacy and many. On the negative side Alison should improve their style of the home page (i. e) its too simple. Then, the site can include one option about the details of the teachers who design the courses. The courses are much concerned about arts and science which is both positive and negative for this website The link for the website is given ,try it...https://alison.com.

Here is the URL - www.efluniversity.ac.in

  57. The courses are much concerned about arts and science which is both positive and negative for this website The link for the website is given ,try it...https://alison.com.
